Halloween Lenormand deck
Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
Halloween Lenormand deck cards are illustrated with vintage images from the beginning of 20th century.
Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand (1772–1843) was a French necromancer, fortune-teller and cartomancer of considerable fame during the Napoleonic era. In France, Lenormand is considered as the greatest cartomancer of all time, highly influential on the wave of French cartomancy that began in the late 18th century. After Lenormand's death her name was used on several cartomancy decks. This included a deck of 36 illustrated cards historically known as the Petit Lenormand.
